Sluggers Home Openers 2000-2004
2000 Petaluma League Home Openers
Summer 2000 - The Sluggers are back to their winning ways in the men's 40 & over softball league. The Sluggers open the 2000 season with a great come from behind win 10-9. Clutch hitting from Bob, Bill and Glen all with 2 outs. Great defense when we needed it. Big DP from Coach Dave (playing SS) to JP (playing 2nd) which ended an almost big inning. Sluggers hold on to get their first win in the new league. We're not old any more and what a difference a year makes, and a new league helps with new faces. The change has started.
Fall 2000 - Sluggers open the fall league with a 11-1 win vs Bay City. Should have been a blowout game. Bay City made way to many errors just to give up 11 runs. Sluggers defense turns 4 DP's with new shortstop John (Smooth) Bulleri, who joins brother Bob in the Sluggers infield
2001 Petaluma League Home Openers
Summer 2001 - Sluggers defeat Escapades 18-10 with a 10 run rally in the top of the 5th inning. This one was a little ugly as the Sluggers defense made 4 errors and the offense left the bases loaded twice. Cheap base hits by both teams and mis-judged fly balls. It's not how hard you hit it but where you hit it.
Fall 2001 - Sluggers still undefeated in home openers in the 40 & over league. Sluggers beat Able Fence 11-10 in 8 innings. This game was protested by the manager of Able Fence (Kids Gone Bad). Don't you have to let the other team manager know? You protest after the game? Hmmmm.... The Sluggers new rivalry is on! And should be a good one. They won the protest and the game will be played over. We beat them this game... period.
2002 Petaluma League Home Openers
Summer 2002 - Sluggers shutout Escapades 25-0 in another home opener victory. Bill goes 4 for 4 with 4 runs scored. John Bulleri scores 4 runs. Coach Dave and the Bulleri brothers all hit triples. George (Flash) Shawver goes deep with a 3 run shot and Larry (The Old Hippy) gives up just 5 hits in this one! Sluggers explode for 13 runs in the second inning. Game over!
Fall 2002 - Sluggers hold on to defeat The Wharf Rats 10-9, in the fall opener with a 6 run 1st inning. The Sluggers defense turns 4 DP's to shut down key rallies through out the game. Coach Dave scores the winning run in the bottom of the 6th after a lead off a double, with Big Bad Bob coming up with the game winning hit.
2003 Petaluma League Home Openers
Summer 2003 - Sluggers win another home opener 17-4 over The Drifters. John B. scores 3 runs to go with his 4 rbi. George has 3 hits, 3 rbi. Steve Gilday had 2 hits and 4 rbi to help lead the way. The Sluggers infield turn 4 DP's in the victory.
Fall 2003 - Sluggers pick on the Drifters again in 24-1 pounding! Sluggers break it open with 12 runs in the 5th inning. Tim Wilson blasted a 3 run homerun and Big Bad Bob had 4 hits, and new old player Terry Johnson had 3 hits, 3 runs scored in his debut.
2004 Petaluma League Home Opener
Summer 2004 - Sluggers hold on to win the home opener over The Loan Rangers 7-6. Big Bad Bob had 3 hits, 2rbi. Marc (Get Dirty) O'Keefe nailed a 2 run double and a triple. Larry had 3 K's and also had 3 base hits. Former Slugger Big Rob playing with the Rangers, knocked in a couple of runs with his 2 hits. This would be the last home opener in Sluggers history. Just didn't know it at the time.
