Sluggers take Over 40 Championship

Sluggers slam their way to the Over 40 tourney Championship

The Sluggers took the direct route to the Men's Over 40 City Slow Pitch Tournament championship, winning three straight games for the crown. Sluggers defeated Kids Gone Bad in the winners' bracket semi-finals and came back to beat them again in the finals for the victory. The Sluggers win the title for the second year in a row.

Sluggers 15, Drifters 0

The Sluggers started their run to the championship in impressive fashion, shutting out the Drifters, 15-0. Dan Metzger had four hits from the leadoff spot to lead the victory. Tim Wilson homered and had three hits. George Shawver and Glen Hearrell had three hits apiece.

Giampolini Painting 9, Drifters 7

Giampolini Painting eliminated the Drifters, 9-7. Toby Tyler thumped a homer and had two hits for the winners. Peter Johnson also had a pair of hits. Dave Carter, Jerry Johnson and John George had three hits each for the Drifters, Ron Morabito, Ray Honda and Dom Bartalozzi each belted two hits.

Sluggers 22, Kids Gone Bad, 3

The Sluggers slammed Kids Gone Bad into the losers bracket with a 22-3 triumph. Glenn Hearrell had four hits to lead the Sluggers assault. John Bulleri belted a homer and had three hits. Dan Metzger, Tim Wilson, Steve Gildey and Marc O'Keefe each had three hits. Jim Erwin had a pair of hits for the Kids.

Door Tech 19, Giampolini Painting 5

Door Tech scored eight runs in the first inning in a rally capped off by a home run by Keith Beyer and never looked back on its way to a 19-5 triumph over Giampolini Painting. Derek Smith slugged four hits for the winners and Dennis Rodrigues and Beyer had three apiece. Al Davidson homered and singled for Giampolini.

Kids Gone Bad 27, Door Tech 13

Kids Gone Bad went bat bonkers in its last two innings, scoring 17 runs on the way to a 27-13 triumph over Door Tech. Mike Thomas, Jim Huff, Wayne Giesen and Mike Harris all homered for the Kids. Mark Smith had four hits, Thomas, Huff, Giesen, Harris, Keith Lau and John Lavin each had three hits. Jeff Westphal homered and singled for Door Tech.

Sluggers 18, Kids Gone Bad 12

The Sluggers wrapped up the tournament title with an 18-12 victory over Kids Gone Bad. John Bulleri and Tim Wilson homered for the champions. Dan Metzger and Marc O'Keefe had four hits apiece. Glen Hearrell had three hits. Scott Dapelo had a big game for the Kids. He homered, had three hits, scored three runs and was on base four times.
