SLUGGERS Rule Over 40 Roost

The Sluggers outlasted a tough four-team field recently to claim the 2002 Petaluma Parks and Recreation Men's Over-40 softball championship. The title took just three wins to secure and offered some sweet revenge of sorts as the Sluggers, who finished the regular season at 10-2, to win the league title, upset last year champions Able Fence, aka; Kids Gone Bad.

Able Fence 11, Computers America 5

Able Fence put the pressure on with a trio of runs in the top of the first inning on singles by Scott Zoeller and Mike Harris, a double by Jim Huff, a two-run base hit by John Lavine, and a two-bagger by Alan Garbarino.

Computers America answered in the bottom of the inning as Jerry Wilkerson tripled and scored on a single by Cort "TV" Fernald, then made it a 3-2 game in the second on a double by Tom Cavanaugh and one-baggers by Al Davidson and Rick Barber.

The score stood at 5-4 after four innings and the Fencemen sealed the deal in the fifth on successive singles by Harris, Huff and Mike Weiss.
